RES PRINCIPAL'S BLOG TO STAFF - Sun., Oct. 29, 2017
Dear Tireless RES Staff,
Let's keep the focus on learning Tuesday and Wednesday. These will be great days to use respect tiles to emphasis good choices made by students. There are a few seasonal books on the table in the conference room area if you would like to read your class a story

KUDOS to STAFF Who "Stepped Up":
- Each classroom teacher for organizing their pumpkin painting for the raffle.
- Those of you who have submitted your parent conference schedule via Google Docs as requested.
Important Items to Know:
Professional Behavior - Below are a few of the professional expectations that will be in the Staff Manual:
- All teachers should have at least 3 days of emergency substitute plans in a binder that they can give to Sherry or have them in a designated place where the admin. asst. and the principal know where they are. Copies should be made in advance and the plans be "ready."
- Regular full-time staff should have emergency sub plans and a schedule in a folder and give it to the admin. assIstant should they have to be out.
- All staff are expected to use the yellow and blue discipline referral forms for documentation of incidents. Blue forms must be submitted to the office as soon as possible, but no later than 1 hr. after the incident. These forms have details that the office needs to have when contacting parents.
Bathroom Sign-Out Sheets - Due to some "fooling' around in the bathrooms, it is necessary for each staff member to monitor the classroom sign-out sheet more closely. It's easy to dismiss a student when you're busy and not be aware of how long they are gone. Please make sure that you are more aware of it. It has happened in the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms. Please speak with your classes about this and then monitor the sign-out sheet. We will be instituting a sign-out sheet in the cafeteria as well for specials and lunch.
Gum - Gum is usually discouraged in schools. There are some teachers at RES that allow this. There are only a few students who are allowed it due to EST/IEP's. It is becoming a problem for the food service when students put it on the tray and it gets missed. It's also a problem when it doesn't get into the actual trash bag. IF you have students who are chewing gum, please limit it to your classroom and then have them get rid of it appropriately before they leave your room.
Halloween Candy/Costumes - I spoke to the students the other day about this not being allowed. You should not see candy bags, costumes, etc. on Tuesday.
Student Visitation - Our homeschooled student will be visiting our school through Thanksgiving on M, W, Th, and Fri. from 11:30 - 11:40. Mrs. Knight will go out to the car and greet the student and will be with him during that time. If she is not here, Libby will be meeting with him. If you see him, please speak quietly to him as he is a bit intimidated by coming into the building.
Morning Meeting - Morning meetings should begin at 7:33 and end by 7:40 so all students can start learning at 7:45 AM. The teacher in charge of morning meeting is the one in charge of announcements and running the meeting. If you have a suggestion for the person, please do so before the meeting or ask if you may contribute. Even as principal many times I have wanted to make a suggestion or "help" out, but restrain myself out of respect for the person leading the meeting. Too many voices make it chaotic and confusing. Thank you for being respectful of the leader.
Library Books - Please remind your students to bring them in weekly. Books that need to be checked in should be sent to the office. Thanks!
PBIS Celebrations - To celebrate the filling of the Rocket, the students have requested a "movie and popcorn" day like they had last spring. So teachers can have extra time to do their grades, students will have movie time from 12:30 - 2:20 PM on Wed., Nov. 1. Teachers will have time in their classrooms for grades and extra planning. No special is affected as it is Wed. afternoon. Thank you for your team spirit and supporting STUDENT choices!
