RES PRINCIPAL'S BLOG TO STAFF - Sun., Dec. 10, 2017

Dear Hardworking RES Staff,

I hope you all had an serene, rejuvenating weekend.  This will be a busy week - so remember to breathe and cherish the joy of the children!  Please use the "Respect" tiles to reinforce respectful behavior!  

KUDOS to STAFF Who "Stepped Up":  

• Jen, Pam, and Leticia for graciously giving up their planning period to support their students for the concert practice at the town hall!  
• Jill for being so flexible and helpful Wednesday when we were shorthanded!
• Liza and Pam for helping cover while we had a student reentry meeting!

Important Items to Know:   

Artist in Residence - Art classes are being extended to the following schedule.  Classes will return to normal times next Monday!

• 8:00-9:00       Grades 3/4 (10 students)
• 9:15-9:45       Pre-K (three-year-olds, 10 students)
• 10:00-10:45   Kindergarten (7 students)
• 12:30-1:15     Grades 1/2  (13 students)
• 1:20-2:20       Grades 5/6  (12 students) 

Bullying Puppets in Education Field Trip - Our students have a wonderful field trip for our students on Wed., Dec. 13 which has been scheduled since August.  This was scheduled before the dates of the Artist in Residence were announced, so we will participate as follows:

• K/2 - 8 -9 AM Bully Prevention & Feelings (Leave at 7:45 AM)
• Gr. 5/6 - 9:05 AM -  10:15 AM - Bully Prevention Workshop (Leave at 8:45 AM)
• Gr. 3/4 10:20 - 11:20 AM - Bully Prevention & Learning Differences (Leave at 10:15 AM)   Gr. 3/4 will have recess when they return.  

All teachers will attend with their classes and you are welcome to invite parents to join you.  Bus transportation is provided.  There is no artist in residence today.  Please send home the puppets in education letter (that Sherri will provide) to families on Monday.  There are questions and surveys for classrooms after the performance.

Music Practice Thursday - There will be a sub scheduled for Thursday to cover your class for 45 min. so that everyone can have planning.   

Secret Santa - Kudos to Pam for stepping up and  organizing Secret Santa this year!   Reminder to how it works: Monday through Thursday leave a little something $2 per day limit for your person.  Then on Friday spend no more than $12 for a thoughtful end of week gift.  We love homemade gifts.  Delivery is available if you are not here everyday.  Keep it simple and have fun!

Spanish Schedule -  Señora has graciously agreed to adjust her hours so our students can have Spanish classes.  So everyone gets their planning period, the spanish classes are schedules as follows in the Multi-Purpose Room.  Please see Cathy with schedule questions.

• 10:15 - 10:45 AM    PK 
• 10:30  - 11:15 AM  - Gr. 5/6
• 10:45 - 11:15 AM   - K
• 11:15 - 11:55 Noon - Lunchtime for Señora
• 11:55 - 12:15 PM - Lunch Duty
• 12:15 - 12:45 - Planning Period for Señora
• 12:45 - 1:25 PM -    Gr. 1/2
• 1:30 - 2:15 PM - Gr. 3/4

Planning Periods - Planning periods are contractural.  Teachers are to have them daily.  Planning periods also serve as "reboot" times for students.  All curriculum and no mental down time for students is NOT a good thing.  Please plan on taking your contractural planning period daily. Flexibility is appreciated!

Hats Wednesday - Sylvia Ledoux has made 60 hats for our students.  I would like 5 min. with your class to present the hats from her and take photos for Sylvia.  Please sign up with Sherri what time I should stop by.  

Book Fair - The Book Fair is starting quietly this week.  Please send home flyers with families on Wed.

Safety Procedures - Just a reminder to all that when students are in the building, the ONLY time to lock the classroom door is IF we are having a school wide lockdown drill.  Even if a student is acting out, doors remain unlocked.  

Choice Recess - Students earned  "Choice Recess" for filling the respectable. Students  can  choose to either go outside and play OR they can stay in the Multipurpose room and color seasonal sheets or CODE on their Chromebooks. (The sub for me will be covering the inside choice recess.)  Recess starts at 11:15 and ends at 11:45 AM.  Teachers lunch is 11:45 - 12:25 PM.
