PRINCIPAL'S BLOG TO STAFF - Sun., Sept. 18, 2016

Dear Dedicated and Hardworking Staff,

 I hope all of you had an amazing weekend!  I have been sitting on a deck overlooking the ocean in Maine - working, but with the sound of the ocean, I don't mind at all.  It's rainy here today though but working under the umbrella on the deck!   Enjoy your Sunday!  

KUDOS to STAFF Who "Stepped Up":

  • Señora for volunteering to stay and help with lunch duty Friday!
  • The Kindergarten class for pasting Box Tops onto the worksheets for us!  
  • All of you for understanding the lack of subs on Friday!

SUB PLANS - All staff should leave sub plans with a detailed schedule when you are out. This helps those of us behind do our jobs! Thanks!


STUDENT BOO BOO'S & SICKNESS - Please feel free to hand out band-aids in your room and ask the children to have a glass of water or two and rest in your room quietly before they have to come visit Teacher Libbet. If you suspect a fever, then please send them down right away. Sending them to the office should be a last resort.

GUIDANCE COUNSELOR UPDATE - We welcome Shajen (pronounced Cheyenne)  Lichtenstein as our new guidance counselor to our team.  The Superintendent said she cannot join us until AFTER the board approves her.  She will be here NEXT week Monday and Thursday, but will normally work Wed. and Thurs.   NEXT Monday, she will be with me during my Library lessons to meet the classes.  We are very lucky to have such a qualified counselor on our staff.  


EMERGENCY LESSON PLANS - SUBSTITUTE BINDERS - Emergencies happen. Your "emergency" subs plans are just that, for the times when you plan to be here, but due to weather, accident, etc. you aren't at the last minute. Please complete binders by Friday, September 30, 3 PM and either store them in Cathy's office or in your room but let Cathy know where they are. They should include, but not be limited to, your daily and weekly schedule - duties, classroom procedures, and at least two days of activities/lessons that can be done in your absence.

PBIS - I am looking for a few folks willing to work with me on revitalizing the PBIS program at RES. I know you are all busy, so won't take too much of your time. Please e-mail Cathy if you can help. 

HELPING OUT - On Tues. and Wed., I will be at the WCSU Int. Field Review representing RES, and Jean won't be here, Emma McCumber will be in to help Libbet out with the office. Thank you Emma!

RES COMMUNITY YARD SALE - Beth Ann has already stepped up and gotten this advertised in the Informer. If you'd like to be part of the planning committee for this event, please let Beth ann or Cathy know. You'all already put in so much time for your classes, I hesitate to ask anyone to "volunteer." I really appreciate all the time you dedicate to our students!

SUPERINTENDENT VISIT -On Fri., Sept. 30, Alice Worth will be visiting RES in the morning. We will be visiting all classrooms throughout the morning.

Dear Tireless RES Staff, It is so inspiring to watch our staff prepare our students for the challenges of a global world.  I will be meeting with the rest of you this week to discuss your walkthroughs and celebrate the outstanding teaching that's going on!   KUDOS to STAFF Who "Stepped Up":   Heather and Lisa who helped run to parents' houses to notify them that there was no school on Monday due to power loss! Dear Dynamic Staff, I was at my UVM library class this weekend and am reminded how blessed I am to work in such a small but caring school.  The book that we're currently reading is called Best Schools by Thomas Armstrong, and it is what our school culture resonates naturally.  KUDOS to STAFF Who "Stepped Up":   Heather for "filling in the holes" whenever we're shorthanded! Dear Dedicated and Hardworking Staff, The rain was refreshing and its certainly cooled off!   Hope you had some down time for you! KUDOS to STAFF Who "Stepped Up":   Kathi for all her work organizing the swimming for Pre-K! Lisa K. for all her work with the Lavender Sachets & Pumpkins! All of you who helped out with the Leaf Peeper's Breakfast! Important Items to Know : Parent Conferences - I am so surprised that there is no "day" for conferences here at the SU. I am happy to support you in anyway to make sure your days are not too long. Please make a Google Doc and share it with me of when your conferences are planned AND if they happen. Please let me know if you want me to join you in any of them. I am happy to get a sub so you can come in "late" or I will be happy to do a tech lesson with your students so you can meet with parents during the late afternoon.
